Dead Space 2
...let's cut to the chase shall we...lets pair 3 things that have gone together that should NEVER GO TOGETHER!!!
Paul Anderson and Resident Evil
chocolate and peas
Uwe Boll...everything
and now I can add multiplayer and survival horror.
That's right I finished dead space 2 after a replay through. It was tough but after better ammo conservation and more time spent on the game it dawned to me...this game is scary but not as long.
Let me explain.
It took me about 7:30 to beat dead space 1...can you guess the time it took to beat dead space 2?
serious guess...I'll wait
Give up?
SIX HOURS AND 55 MINUTES!
Thats right. This game was SHORTER than dead space 1!
In a sequel a game should be longer and better than the original, Final Fantasy is responsible for this as well.
The game makes up for some of its problems with more difficulty modes, monster designs and get this...a non silent main character...wait didn't they fuck that up in Metroid other M?
Well it's kinda hit and miss with Isaac's voice actor as sometimes he sounds scared but others he sounds like a basic movie bad ass. The voice acting from the rest of the cast is pretty good but it pales to some of the total messed up monsters and moments in the game. I'm not gonna spoil anything but lemme just say this...its messed up near chapter 4-7.
surprisingly their's not many new weapons in the game, I counted only 3 new ones (four with the rivet gun) but to me that's ok since the combat has actually gotten way better since the last game. The weapons that are from the last game have had massive improvements, one weapon I note is the flame thrower which was like the knife in resident evil...useless.
The enemy AI is brutal in some areas with some enemies having down right cheap attacks but this also leads to the hardest yet easiest final boss battle of all time. Like I said in the shout box I had to restart due to the fact I did not have the right weapons. In my second play through I had enough seeker rounds to do an entire seeker rifle run. So I end up buying all the weapons on my second run through and having enough ammo stocked to go through on zealot mode,
The outside areas are improved as well as Zero G environments which now allow free roaming add more to the games levels which are more varied but like I said were short. The fact that there is not many useless mini games (dead space:ignition did enough for both of us) this makes it a very good game to play...but not to own.
Oh how do I say this?
I like it...but I would not want to buy it.
That's right. Its a rental or two but to me I like the game but its not really scary after 2 play throughs.
To explain this lets look at silent hill. Each time you play through certain actions effect the game and the ending, its never the same game twice and it feels like you connect with your character no matter what there in silent hill for, be it guilt or innocence.
In Dead Space 2 there are no choices, just a set path start to finish. No moral choice, no good or evil ending. To me its ok but I did not want 'OK' I wanted great. It's no Halo Reach or Christ its no Heavy Rain. Its a good story with good gameplay but not enough to keep you going except if your insane enough to play on hardcore mode.
Also I just ignored the multiplayer cause I tried Bioshock 2 mp and it sucked too.
(Guess its time to introduce my rating system for review. I only have 4 ratings. Buy, Try, rent, and ignore)
Rating: Try
I'm gonna trade in the game this weekend
